Zohra Hiadari’s Journey of Learning and Empowerment in the U.S.

A Testimony to Resilience

Zohra Hiadari’s story is one of remarkable determination and growth. Having moved to the United States in August 2021, Zohra’s transition from Afghanistan to a new life in the U.S. has been filled with both opportunities and challenges. “Life is good here,” Zohra reflects. “My kids can study, my husband can work, and there are many job opportunities. However, the biggest challenge for me is the language.”

In Afghanistan, Zohra never had the opportunity to attend school. This barrier followed her to the U.S., making everyday tasks and interactions particularly challenging. But Zohra’s resolve to overcome these hurdles has been unwavering. Since her arrival, she has made significant strides in bridging the language gap. Enrolled in the Pre-Intermediate ESL class at Simplify Global Education (SGE), Zohra is now poised to advance to the Intermediate level, marking a significant milestone in her language learning journey.

Beyond language, Zohra has embraced the challenge of becoming digitally literate—a skill she views as crucial for modern living. “I had no knowledge of computers before joining Simplify Global Education, but now I am familiar with using them. I can write paragraphs, send emails, and I am currently learning how to use Microsoft Word,” she explains proudly.

Zohra’s motivation for mastering English extends beyond personal achievement; it’s about empowerment and providing for her family. “I am studying ESL to solve my own problems, to get a good job, and to support my family,” she says. With regular medical appointments for herself and her children, the ability to communicate effectively with healthcare providers is essential.

Reflecting on her journey from a conservative background in Afghanistan, where she was not allowed to pursue education, Zohra notes, “Now, when I go for my appointments, I can answer 50% of their questions.” This newfound confidence is a testament to her hard work and the supportive learning environment provided by SGE.

Despite facing financial difficulties and the recent news that her sponsorship would be discontinued; Zohra remains optimistic and determined. “It was disheartening to receive the news that my sponsor will no longer support me, as I want to finish this program and earn my certificate,” she shares. Yet, her hope is that other sponsors might step in to support her educational journey until completion.

Zohra recommends online learning to others facing similar barriers, emphasizing the effectiveness of SGE’s platform. “Some people say they don’t benefit from online classes, but I believe that SGE is the best online platform for people like me to learn and gain confidence.”

Zohra Hiadari’s story is not just one of learning a new language or mastering digital tools—it is a profound narrative of empowerment, resilience, and the transformative power of education. As she continues her journey with SGE, her spirit and progress inspire many others in her community and beyond, highlighting the critical role of education in changing lives.
