Reema’s Journey to Empowerment

Vercoming Barriers and Embracing Opportunities in the U.S.

When Reema arrived in the United States in 2021, she brought with her dreams of a brighter future, not just for herself but especially for her children. “I am happy to be in the United States for my children because here they can go to school and college, and American education is considered to be one of the best in the world,” Reema shares with a hopeful smile.

Currently embracing her role as a housewife and caring for her children, Reema faces significant challenges that stem from her desire to further her own education in the U.S.

The primary barrier she confronts is the language. “My biggest challenge is that I want to study here in the United States but am not able to because of the language barrier,” Reema explains.

Determined to overcome this hurdle, Reema is actively improving her English skills in a pre-intermediate class at Simplify Global Education. Her classes focus on enhancing memory, sound recognition, and problem-solving skills—essential tools for mastering a new language. “I believe that knowing English is essential for communication and can give me a competitive edge in the job market,” she asserts.

Reema’s educational aspirations extend beyond language proficiency. She dreams of becoming a teacher, a goal that motivates her daily efforts. “After finishing my English class, I plan to study in college to become a teacher,” she states with determination. Her progress is evident; she began her journey without the ability to speak English and now converses with growing confidence. “I couldn’t speak English at all when I started, but now I can speak a little. I started from the beginner level, and my English has improved significantly.” In addition to her language studies, Reema is also expanding her digital literacy. “I also attend computer classes. I had no prior knowledge of how to use a computer, but now I have learned how to use the keyboard, email, and Microsoft Word,” she elaborates.

This new set of skills is critical, not just for her academic pursuits but also for everyday life in a digital world.

Reema’s story is one of resilience and hope. With each class and every new word she learns, she is slowly transforming her challenges into stepping stones toward her ultimate goal. “I am determined to continue learning and growing in my studies and hope to achieve my goal of becoming a teacher,” she says, encapsulating her journey of empowerment.

Reema’s narrative is a powerful testament to the transformative impact of education and the strength of the human spirit to pursue dreams, despite daunting barriers. Her progress and determination are an inspiration to many, highlighting the critical role of education in enabling individuals to build successful and fulfilling lives in new environments.
